Introducing Florin Patras, QA Technical Lead at Maxcode with over 15 years of experience in automated testing. Besides his personal involvement in starting automation projects and integrating them in a CI/CD pipeline, he conducts analysis to help colleagues and clients choose the best tools for their automation projects and also shares his advice on technical solutions for testing in general.
Why is automated testing so important in fintech?
Automated testing can speed up the testing process by finding bugs earlier and eliminating human error, so it reduces project costs. I think this is an important goal in all industries, not just fintech! But automated testing can also address performance and security, which are both particularly relevant topics for our fintech clients.
To what extent do different clients have different appetites for investing in automated testing?
The appetite for investing in automated testing differs depending on the client’s growth stage. In general, when a project is in its initial phase, the client is less open to automated testing because of the costs. We often have to spend time explaining its importance and benefits to such clients. But once an automation project is underway, those clients immediately see for themselves how efficient and useful the automated tests are in the overall testing process. Needless to say, automated testing is very scalable and the benefits become even bigger as the size of the client project increases. Therefore, generally speaking, clients in more advanced growth stages have a higher appetite for investment in automated testing.
How is AI changing the face of automated testing?
It is becoming increasingly common to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) in the automated testing process. Obviously, AI can process a huge amount of data, which generates time savings. AI can also help testers to improve the code, the quality of the tests and the scenarios. And thanks to helping with analysis of failed tests, it contributes to continuous improvement.
How does Maxcode ensure the quality and reliability of its automated testing frameworks?
We ensure that we stay up to date with the latest changes in the field, so that we are using the latest versions to safeguard the security of all our tools and data. We make a point of sharing this knowledge throughout our company, which means that all our testers are always fully prepared to run both manual and automated tests.
What advice would you give to companies looking to implement automated testing in their development processes?
It’s important to work with an expert right from the start of the automation project, because otherwise you risk losing time and money. And if you’re wondering whether to start using automated testing, don’t think twice – just do it! Maybe you don’t see the benefits right now, but you won’t regret it in the future.
Where do you see the future of automated testing heading? And how is Maxcode preparing for that future?
Automated testing will soon be an important part of testing in each and every project, and no one will be able to skip it. As a company, we already have the right in-house expertise to support any client who wants to start automated testing. We can advise them on the best automation tool to choose from the current range on the market, and we even provide training to help them get started.
